Rigidly Rotating Strings in Stationary Axisymmetric Spacetimes

چکیده
In this paper we study a motion of a rigidly rotating Nambu-Goto test string in a stationary axisymmetric background spacetime. As special examples we consider rigid rotation of strings in a flat spacetime, where explicit analytic solutions can be obtained, and in the Kerr spacetime.

Van Stockum–Bonnor Spacetimes of Rigidly Rotating Dust
We discuss different classes of van Stockum spacetimes which are stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes of dust rotating rigidly on trajectories of the time translation Killing vector. The flow has no Newtonian limit. Asymptotically flat solutions are not physically viable. As an example we construct a sequence of asymptotically flat internal multipolar solutions. The corresponding sequence of ...
متن کاملGeneral Relativistic Rotation Curves in a Post-Newtonian Light
The missing of a Keplerian fall-off in the observed galaxy rotation curves represents classical evidence for the existence of dark matter on galactic scales. There has been some recent activity concerning the potential of modelling galactic systems with the help of general relativity. This was motivated by claims that by the use of full general relativity dark matter could be made superfluous. ...
متن کاملStationary axisymmetric and slowly rotating spacetimes in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity.
Stationary, axisymmetric, and slowly rotating vacuum spacetimes in the Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity are studied, and it is shown that, for any given spherical static vacuum solution of the HL theory (of any model, including the ones with an additional U(1) symmetry), there always exists a corresponding slowly rotating, stationary, and axisymmetric vacuum solution, which reduces to the former, w...
متن کاملNewtonian Aspects of General Relativistic Galaxy Models
Many cosmological observations call for the existence of dark matter. The most direct evidence for dark matter is inferred from the measured flatness of galactic rotation curves. The latter is based on Newtonian gravity. Alternative approaches to the rotation curve problem by means of general relativity have recently been put forward. The class of models of interest is a subset of the axially s...
متن کاملPhysically Realistic Solutions to the Ernst Equation on Hyperelliptic Riemann Surfaces
A class of solutions to the Ernst equation (the stationary axisymmetric Einstein equations in vacuum) is discussed which is constructed via Riemann–Hilbert techniques on hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces. We identify a physically interesting subclass where the Ernst potential is everywhere regular except at a closed surface which might be identified with the surface of a body of revolution. The co...
